Course Description

This class introduces students to CNC machines that utilize G&M code (EIA-274-D) programming. Students learn correct syntax and safe machine tool programming, as well as machine setup. Students will produce a finished part to test their skills. This is a hands on class so there is an emphasis on safety.

Prerequisites include: Basic shop math, CNC experience or completion of Intro to CNC Machining class, and Shop safety training.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to safely:
Write basic programs for machine tools utilizing EIA-274-O programming language.
Define and set cutting tools for various machining operations.
Set work shifts for machining operations.
Calculate the correct feeds and speeds for various cutting tools and materials.
Inspect a part using standard gauging practices.
